May 7 2008 - A
Decade of Winter Adult Snowboard Camps
"We have just finished up our winter camps for
our 10th season and I have to say that it was a blast.
We were blessed with an awesome season of snow and a
fantastic group of campers. We passed the 200 + camper
mark for the first time and things couldn't have run
smoother. If you check out the diary pages you will
get a chance to see what we got up to. There were so
many great memories from this season and I have to thank
our campers for helping us with their feedback so we
can continue to be the number 1 winter camp for adults
in North America.
Now the northern winter is done we set our sights on
New Zealand for the September 'World Trip' and rework
our training systems for next winter. It will be a pretty
fun summer for us with our new daughter Baylee (currently
9 weeks), the NZ trip, and the new Peak to Peak Gondola
being built. I already am excited about next winter
and the fun we are going to have. This past decade has
flown by and now we set out sights of stepping it up
again next winter." Head Coach Anthony Crute

Pro Coach Crispin Lipscomb wins Showdown
Crispin arrived back in Whistler fresh of the plane
from his world cup tour to come and destroy the Showcase
Showdown pipestyle event.
Crispin was one a few riders who could shred
the course, go huge and stay on his feet. The picture
to the left is of his second hit mid fs 7 and then went
on to a cab 7 on the next pipe wall, boardslide to grab
and then cab 1 onto the down box to late 180 out.
"We are stoked to have Crispin dominate this well
known competition here in Whistler against a world class
field of competitors. All the campers checked out the
event and then partied with Crispin at our Friday night
apre drinks"

Pro Ride Guide Wins Downtown Toronto Rail Jam
Toronto is truly an action sports Mecca, as was proved
the weekend of March 3-4. Not only was there a major
BMX competition going down, but also the final stop
of the Old Spice Experience Rail tour was held in downtown
Toronto’s Dundas Square. Some of the competitors
in said rail jam also moonlight as sponsored wakeskaters,
so like I said, most extreme place on earth.
In the rail jam, winner Geoff Brown threw a plethora
of maneuvers during, including a front flip (which he
asked me not to mention) and a cab on 270 off. The front
flip was the real crowd pleaser, but his super smooth
style and consistency were what really put him ahead

Olympic Update
What can I say other than Shaun White dominated the
men's half pipe event at the Torino winter Olympics.
With a run that consisted or two 1080's and two 900's
and was super smooth - he pretty much killed it.
Our own coaches did really well. Crispin Lipsconb finished
up 11th in the men's half pipe after qualifying for
the finals. Damon Haylor finished 7th in the men's boardercross
after making the semi finals. Unluckily he was pushed
off the course right at the start of the semi finals.
Emily Thomas finished up 16th in the womens boardercross.
Well done to you all.

conditions. “It has been so good this year…
day after day since Christmas Day I’ve woken up

Whistler Blackcomb has announced that Blackcomb Mountain
will open this Saturday, November 5 much earlier than
planned, in fact it’s one of the earliest openings
in the resort’s 40 year history. Blackcomb Mountain
will remain open through the weekend (November 5 and
6) and plans are in place to open daily as of Friday,
November 11.
A series of Pacific frontal systems over the past weekend
brought a total of 60 centimeters (24 inches) of snow
to the mountains at the Rendezvous Lodge elevation located
at 1,860m/6,102ft, and the forecast is calling for even
more snow through the week"
"This is a major boost for early season conditions
at Whistler Blackcomb," says Bob Dufour, Vice President
of Mountain Operations. "The long range forecast
over the coming weeks is for normal, or colder than
normal temperatures plus normal or greater than normal
precipitation. This is very good news for us."

2005 Pro Ride Pro Guide wins Freestyle.ch
Over the weekend one of our favorite guest guides did
his thing again at one of the premier events to kick
of the season - the Freestyle.ch
in Zurich
Mike Brassel (one of our past campers) was at the event
and said that Marc was doing the sickest one footed
back flips which won him the contest.
I still can't believe that he is still wearing his orange
construction road workers pants.
Congratulations Marc! |

2005 Quiksilver Indies Trader is in Vancouver
The Crossing is a 75 foot diving and survey vessel.
It weighs 95 tonnes and has a cruising speed of eight
knots. It was originally built in Brisbane in 1972 and
was rebuilt in Singapore in 1992. In 1999 it was customized
for the Crossing and has been painted with a Polynesian
design. More than 360 people have joined the boat since
March 1999, discovered and surfed 91 world-class waves.
The boat has traveled more than 70,000 nautical miles
since leaving Cairns (the distance around the Equator
is 21,638 nautical miles). The usual makeup of a trip
is four surfers, one marine biologist, a stills photographer
and a cinematographer. Sometimes a writer is on board.
To check out some amazing stories, images, and videos
from past trips go to http://thecrossing.quiksilver.com
We are off to party with the crew and see what all the
fuss is about.

2005 Snowmaking starts on Whistler
Heads up, folks. Sub-zero alpine temperatures in Whistler
have the snow-guns firing. With cold nights forecast,
Whistler Blackcomb should see snow accumulation shortly.
Snowmaking upgrades and summer grooming will provide
improved snow conditions and greater terrain access
in the early and late season.
Opening day is scheduled for November 24, 2005 and
if the Norse snow god Ullr is good to us, the mountains
will open even earlier.

2005 Great Waves in Cabo San Lucas
After a super busy summer season the Pro Ride crew packed
up for a week and headed to Cabo San Lucas in Baja Mexico
for some surfing.
Having never been to Cabo we were pleasantly surprised
by the friendly nature and ease of finding all the great
surf spots. Zippers became our local place to surf for
the week which offered some great head to head and half
high waves to the right and some super fast short left
handers.
Anyone who is thinking about heading down let us know
as we will be sure to head back down the same time next
year.

Crispin Lipscomb takes 2nd at NZ Open HP
Against the top competition of Ross Powers (USA), Keir
Dillon (USA) and other top world class riders - Crispin
(CAD) dominated to come within .2 of a point of Ross
to take 2nd place today.
With what has gone down as the highest level of riding
ever seen in NZ - the boys ripped it up and threw down
runs that are the norm in the video game Amped form
X Box. Back to back 900's and 1080's were the norm and
Kier Dillon was doing his signature 1st hit Mc Twists.

Andy Seeney hooked up at Squaw Valley
"This is just a quick e-mail to say thanks to you
and your team (especially
Mikey) for being patient and getting me through my CASI
level 1 and teaching
me so much. The reason is I have recently been given
a job with Squaw Valley Kids Ski School (California
USA) for the coming winter season to teach kids how
to snowboard!
Riding with you all was such a great time and has now
given me the
opportunity to mess around on the snow while getting
paid for it and giving
something back to the sport. So thanks again for everything,
keep it up. Best wishes to the Pro-Ride Crew."
